Secondary Steel: your economic choice from a prime steel supplier
We are proud of the highest quality and great prices of our sheet metal. Yet, we know there are some customers who would like to go for an even more cost-effective option, who do not need the steel with prime mill certification. Lowest price does not necessarily mean poor quality – there are many benefits of non-prime steel coils.
What is non-prime steel?
Non-Prime, Surplus steel, Declasse, Downgrades, Over Rollings, Secondary – these are the names given to materials which cannot be given mill prime certification. Non-prime steel coils are still durable and strong but may have some minor, cosmetic issues. As a leading galvanized steel coil distributor, we can offer a wide range of secondary steel with various qualities that will be a perfect fit for your project.
Why are some metals are classified as non-prime?
excess steel inventory – overstocking, caused by a surplus in the production process;
metals already cut to a faulty specification;
warehouse rust if a product has stayed for a long period in a warehouse;
products off gauge;
discrepancies in the requirement specifications of prime orders;
metal sheets which aren’t totally flat and need some processing.
There are many various reasons why metal can be classified as non-prime, and some of them may be so trivial as small scratches, split ends or notched edges. Hot rolled steel, galvanized steel, structural steel, and other steel coils can easily fall into this category due to very minor industrial defects or excess production. Secondary steel, however, is not just “second-quality” metal. Secondary steel coils for sale are the economic choice for small industries that cannot afford prime metals. Non-prime steel can be effectively used to produce fine quality to end-users.
